Mellow Morning

Another relaxed, leisurely morning. Just a few more mornings of sleeping in, tea in bed, and looking out my window. I open my blinds a crack and get a view of the mountains clad in gentle morning light. In the foreground I see my red trumpet vines trying to reach for the sky clinging to the tall Juniper hedge. This morning, I've been looking for it, but it is just not coming--that little Hummingbird that always plays around and then dips in for nectar from the Red Trumpet. I never cease to wonder how this bird can move its little wings so fast, yet stay in one place, as though held there by an invisible string. I know there is a zoological answer to it, but I just want to keep it shrouded in wonder and mystery. Me, the eternal romantic! Anyway,I am still looking for my bird, and it is not there. I just know it is a particular bird that comes. I know it senses that I am watching in awe, and it shows off; it flies so fast that it stands in place, and it dives for nectarr. It makes me smile. Wonder what happened to it today. Sun is getting brighter and I can't be sitting here all morning, so come on little birdie! Could it be that black cat that prowls around? Wait, there it is now, in all its splendor, dancing, drinking, and showing off for me, and if I get close, it'll fly off. Needless to say Hummingbird is one of my favorite birds. It represents speed and strength in a small body, and "Small is Beautiful".
